VGH’s Diamond Health Care Center closed after late night fire

A small fire in the Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre at Vancouver General Hospital shut down the facility Friday.

Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) tells CityNews it responded to the fire late Thursday night, adding crews were able to quickly knock down the flames.

Vancouver Coastal Health said in an update Friday afternoon that the facility was evacuated as a precaution, with an investigation underway into what caused the fire.

The fire resulted in some smoke and water damage from the sprinkler system, meaning the centre will be closed until Monday to allow time for repairs, VCH adds.

“Impacted patients will be contacted to reschedule appointments and can reach out with any immediate questions or concerns to: 604-875-4111,” the health authority says.
