Port Mann clear after 2 roll-over crashes on Highway 1 eastbound

Two separate roll-over crashes along Highway 1 on the Port Mann Bridge made a mess of the Thursday morning commute.

Both crashes were at the east end of the bridge, heading east.

The through-lane barrier was pushed into the 152nd Street exit lanes, and only the HOV lane was getting through.

Traffic is heavy both ways as the crashes created a visual distraction for all those heading west.

Darren Grieve in the CityNews Air Patrol explains he hasn’t seen crashes like Thursday morning in a long time.

“I bet you it’s been six, eight months. Not just the amount of vehicles in the crash, but the roll overs — I don’t know when I saw that last.”

“It was [lit up] like a Christmas tree at the east end of the Port Mann Bridge,” Grieve said. “There are multiple fire trucks, ambulances, police. And then of course the tow trucks started rolling in as well. So, there must have been seven, maybe eight different emergency vehicles on scene at one point.”

Speaking to CityNews, BC Highway Patrol says no injuries have been reported, and all drivers and occupants have been transported off the highway.

Police say the extent of the damage to the vehicle is severe, and they expect numerous vehicles to be written off.

The Patullo Bridge can be used as an alternate route.
