The Lower Mainland’s homicide team says a man was arrested in Ontario Tuesday in relation to a fatal shooting in Surrey in 2022.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says police initially responded to reports of a shooting in the area of 168 Street and 104 Avenue on Feb. 8, 2022. It was later determined the shooting happened along 170a Street.
Officers say they found two people inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to hospital for their injuries.
Twenty-year-old Jasmine Lindstrom survived the shooting, however, 24-year-old Juvraj Javbal died of his injuries in hospital.
Police say 23-year-old Yusuf Kontos, from Richmond Hill, Ont., now faces one count of first-degree murder in relation to the homicide, along with one count of attempted murder.
“This was a two-year-long investigation, in which we utilized every tool at our disposal to locate Kontos,
” said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti. “IHIT will continue to be relentless when it comes to bringing those responsible for these senseless homicides to justice.
“
Kontos has yet to face court.
