East Vancouver fire closed part of Broadway, fire knocked down

A building fire along Broadway near Fraser Street affected traffic in East Vancouver Thursday.

Vancouver Fire Rescue Services was on the scene at the small fire in a two-storey building.

VFRS said crews were initially called to the fire after 11 a.m. after people saw smoke coming from the building.

Public Information Officer Captain Matt Trudeau told CityNews that crews are familiar with the property, having been there within the last year.

“There was a firefighter here who was at that previous fire, so this is definitely the second fire of significance at this building.”

All westbound lanes were temporarily closed with limited eastbound traffic getting through.

Trudeau noted the cause of the fire is under investigation, however, no injuries were reported.
