Driver taken to hospital after ‘serious’ West Vancouver crash

A “serious collision” sent a driver to hospital early Wednesday morning, the West Vancouver Police Department confirms.

The incident happened just after 6 a.m., police say, closing Marine Drive between 24th and 25th streets.

Police say the cause of the crash is still being investigated, however, preliminary information suggests that the car was travelling east on Marine Drive when it hit a “granite road sign.”

“The resulting debris field stretches a half-block on both sides of the roadway. The driver was transported to hospital with minor injuries, and thankfully, no one else was involved in the collision,” the WVPD said in an update later Wednesday morning.

WVPD did not release further details on the driver’s condition.

“We are fortunate that no pedestrians or other drivers were injured in this collision,” said Sgt. Chris Bigland.

Police say speed and impairment are not being ruled out as a cause for the crash.

Marine Drive reopened to traffic just before 11 a.m.
