B.C. egg price hike approved by marketing board

You may see a slight increase in prices the next time you pick up some eggs in B.C.

The BC Egg Marketing Board approved in late January an average hike of about seven cents on the minimum wholesale price per one dozen eggs.

However, whether or not stores will increase what you pay will be up to them, with the board saying that decision is made by retailers.

The minimum price for a dozen is now $3.16 for jumbo, large, and extra large eggs, $2.85 for medium eggs, $2.50 for small eggs, and 32 cents for peewee eggs.

Last year, BC Egg lowered the minimum price per dozen eggs. However, there was no indication that would translate into lower prices for consumers.
