BC Ferries cancels some sailings due to rudder issue on major vessel

If you plan to travel between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island this weekend, be sure to check your sailings.

BC Ferries has cancelled a number of sailings between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay due to rudder problems on the Queen of New Westminster.

Eight sailings between the terminals have been cancelled on Friday, Feb. 23, and Sunday, Feb. 25.

BC Ferries says its divers have investigated the problem with the rudder, and replacement parts are set to arrive “within the next few days.”

“If you have a booking on one of these cancelled sailings, you will hear from our Customer Service Centre who will let you know if we can fit you on an alternate sailing later in the day, or if your booking must be cancelled. In the case of a cancellation, we will refund your fees and/or fares,” the ferry service explained.

“We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of these cancellations.”
