New Westminster crews knock down house fire that displaced multiple people

A house fire in New Westminster that sent massive plumes of grey and black smoke into the air Tuesday morning has displaced numerous people from their home.
The fire, which broke out around 6:30 a.m., was just east of Highway 91A in the Queensborough neighbourhood.
“Crews arrived on scene and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the house,” Acting Assistant Fire Chief Gord Denhoed told CityNews.
“Initial reports were that there were some people trapped inside, however, crews quickly determined that all occupants made it out safely.”
New Westminster fire crews mopped up following knocking down the fire on McGillivray Place, and while Denhoed says they did a “really good job” in stopping the fire from spreading, there was damage to the neighbouring houses on each side.
“The cause is yet to be determined. We do have fire investigators on scene,” Denhoed confirmed. “There are multiple people displaced; the exact number I can’t confirm, at this point, but there were multiple people. The emergency social services [team] is on seeing it and looking out for their best interests.”
“We still have suppression crews on the scene just to make sure that there’s no flare-ups to the hotspots.”
