1 person taken to hospital after fire in Vancouver

Vancouver’s fire chief says one person has been taken to the hospital after an overnight fire in the city’s south.

Karen Fry said Tuesday morning the fire in the area of East 65th Avenue near Fraser Street also displaced eight people at the home.

According to Vancouver Fire Rescue Services, flames broke out around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Images of the house show heavy damage to the exterior, with charred beams and siding as crews cleaned up.

It’s still unclear what caused the fire.

“A good reminder to check your home for working fire alarms,” Fry wrote just after 5 a.m.
