Power restored to thousands in Vancouver: BC Hydro

Power has been restored for thousands of people in Vancouver.

Initially, nearly 20,000 BC Hydro customers were without electricity on Tuesday.

The utility provider says crews were called out to deal with a substation fault affecting areas such as Victoria-Fraserview, Killarney, and Renfrew-Collingwood.

Power was restored after 9:10 a.m. However, another failure took thousands back off the grid.

“It impacted about 17,000 customers. Power was restored. Unfortunately, that fix didn’t hold, so what crews are currently doing is we have had another outage, so those same customers are impacted again,” explained Mora Scott with BC Hydro.

“Our crews are now switching these customers over to another circuit so we can get their power restored. Those customers should start seeing their power come on … and we’re expecting all customers to be restored by noon.”

People are being told to keep an eye out for any traffic light outages as power is restored.
