McHappy Day returns to support children’s charities across Canada

By CityNews Staff

If you’re hoping to pick up a burger, fries, or drink, why not do it and support a children’s charity at the same time?

Wednesday, May 8, is McHappy Day across McDonald’s locations in Canada. On this day, a portion of proceeds from all food and beverage sales at the fast-food giant will go to support Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and other local children’s charities.

CityNews is proud to support McHappy Day, with some of our own lending a helping hand at the Golden Arches Wednesday morning.

Afternoon Drive anchors Maria Vinca and John Ackermann and CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss all rolled up their sleeves to help out behind the counter.

From making burgers and pouring drinks, to putting in some cleaning time, the team got to work doing something a little different from their day-to-day.

“It felt good to give back to the community and show our support for local children’s charities,” said Vinca, who got to assemble some quarter pounders — her favourite order.

“Just getting to see how the stuff is made and put together and seeing how complicated and what systems go into these orders was great,” said Ackermann, who added, “It’s a well-oiled machine.”

This year, customers will also have the option to round up their order to the nearest dollar to give back to local charities.

Merch will also available, with partial proceeds again going back to RMHC Canada.

According to McDonald’s, McHappy Day events have helped support more than 468,000 families across Canada over 30 years.
