Not one B.C. city considered Canada’s most affordable: real estate company

You’ll have to look long and hard to find a city in B.C. on the latest list of Canada’s most affordable communities.

Real estate company Royal LePage says on its latest list of most affordable cities in Canada, not a single city in B.C. is in the top 15.

Canada’s most affordable place to purchase, according to Royal LePage, is Thunder Bay in Ontario. The average price for a home in that city is around $300,000, the real estate company says.

Of the 15 most affordable cities, Royal LePage says four are located in Quebec and four in the Atlantic provinces.

Royal LePage says the cost of housing is hitting us so hard, locally, that many people are looking at moving. And not just to the Okanagan or Northern B.C., they’re looking at Edmonton, St John’s, and Thunder Bay.

It says Edmonton is the top-ranking choice among both Greater Toronto and Greater Vancouver residents

The real estate company says those of us in big cities like Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto are the ones who most want to find a more affordable place to live.

Renters are more likely than owners to consider relocating based on the cost of housing, but not by much.

Royal LePage says 45 per cent of people surveyed in Metro Vancouver would move if they had the chance, and the option to keep their job and work remotely.
