Serious Delta crash on River Road sends 1 to hospital

A serious crash in Delta has sent one person to hospital with injuries, the Delta Police Department says.

River Road was closed between Alexander Road and 92nd Street. As of 3:23 p.m., the DPD says the crash has “been cleared and the roadway has been reopened.”

Acting Insp. James Sandberg shared that two vehicles, including one commercial vehicle, were involved in the crash.

“As a result of the collision, we have one patient that has received serious injuries and has been transported to the hospital,” he said.

“I believe the other driver is unharmed,” Sandberg said, adding police are unsure if the wet weather was a factor in the collision.

“Historically, when we have dry spells followed by a wet burst or a little bit of rain, the roads do become a little bit more slippery,” he explained. “There’s the oils on the roads that come up to the surface. So, it is always wise to err on the side of caution, drive defensively, and bring your speeds down.”

The DPD asked drivers to avoid the area while they investigated. The closure of River Road was in place for several hours, as police predicted.
