Crews knock down fire at Surrey furniture store in Cloverdale

The Surrey Fire Service quickly knocked down a fire in the city’s Cloverdale neighbourhood Tuesday morning after a morning blaze broke out at a furniture shop.

The structure fire broke out before 6 a.m. along Highway 10 near 176A Street.

Assistant Fire Chief Rich Bodnark tells 1130 NewsRadio that people passing by called 911 when they saw flames shooting out of a second-floor window at the Furniture Barn.

“We had some passersby report this quickly, and in addition, we were able to get significant resources on scene,” he explained. “This was basically what allowed us to make sure that we had no property loss, other than the second floor of this building.”

Video from the 1130 NewsRadio Air Patrol showed white smoke billowing into the air.

Highway 10 was closed eastbound at Highway 15 while crews were on scene. The highway reopened just before 8 a.m.
