Potential bomb in Surrey found to be ‘inactive’

Mounties in Surrey say they shut down part of the area near Campbell Heights Industrial Park after they received reports of a possible “military-style explosive device” around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Mounties say that just to be careful, they closed off 28th Avenue between 192 and 194 streets.

The Surrey RCMP says it called in the Vancouver Police Department’s Explosive Disposal Unit to investigate, and the department “neutralized the device”

“It was determined that the device was inactive and it did not pose a risk to public safety,” Sgt. Tammy Lobb said in a statement Friday.

Roads and the nearby park opened a few hours later.
