Highway 4 to Tofino and Ucluelet reopens after closure due to rocks on road Friday

The Pacific Rim Highway — Highway 4 — has reopened after it was closed in both directions Friday evening due to rocks and water on the road, DriveBC says.

The service posted on X that the highway was closed around 5:30 p.m. near Kennedy Lake.

Drivers are still advised to expect major delays in the area due to water pooling on the road.

The highway closure effectively cut off Tofino and Ucluelet from the rest of Vancouver Island.

While it isn’t clear if the cause was weather-related, Vancouver Island is getting pummelled by rain due to the atmospheric river also being seen in the Lower Mainland.
