Suspect wielding knife arrested near Richmond SkyTrain station

Police in Richmond arrested a man who allegedly threatened people with a knife near the Lansdowne SkyTrain Station Sunday.

The Richmond RCMP says it received several calls around 4 p.m. about a man carrying a knife in the area.

Police say the man was seen exiting a train, falling down an escalator, and dropping a gun — though police later determined the gun to be an airsoft pistol. A witness also told police they saw the man chasing a woman.

Police reportedly chased the suspect on foot briefly before he was arrested and a weapon was seized.

“No injuries were reported among civilians or officers. The suspect was arrested for assault with a weapon, and the investigation is ongoing,” Mounties said in a statement Monday.
