Andrew Leaver told 1130 NewsRadio.
“They’ll be working to gather evidence and determine what factors may have led up to the collision.”
Leaver explains the driver remained on the scene after the crash.
“We expect road closures to last for several hours as officers gather evidence and investigate the causes of the collision,” he added.
“Right now, we don’t have any information as to what caused the collision and what factors may have been present during the collision. Our officers are investigating that, and would love to speak to anyone that they haven’t already spoken to,” Leaver said.
Images from the scene show police tape around the incident, and investigators on the scene.
A grey tarp can be seen placed on the roadway, with a white Audi sedan multiple metres away from the area of the incident. The vehicle’s windshield looks to be smashed, with the front bumper and hood caved in.
“If you witnessed this collision and haven’t spoken to police about what you saw please contact the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411,” the NWPD said.
“Anyone that may have witnessed, or is affected by what they have seen, are asked to call our victim assistance unit. They’re here to support anyone who may be triggered or might be suffering as a result of what they’ve seen, they can call our office and we’d be happy to support them,” Leaver added.
The road closure, just by Queen’s Park, was creating difficulties for those trying to get to the Pattullo Bridge.
Northbound traffic along McBride detoured at Memorial Drive.
Meanwhile, northbound traffic heading to New West from Surrey across the Pattullo is crawling from King George Boulevard and 132 Street.
You can take the Port Mann Bridge as an alternate route.
