Speaking to media earlier Tuesday afternoon, Sgt. Andrew Leaver said police were asking for the public’s patience as the department worked to resolve the situation.
“We’re asking if you live or work in the area to please leave. We can’t speak specifically to what the threat is right now, but what I can say is that we take every threat seriously until we can determine otherwise,” said Leaver.
He says no one was forced to leave, but police asked that people heed police warnings.
The courthouse, Leaver explained, is a “very sensitive area” surrounded by many homes and businesses. At the time, he said police will be working for the “foreseeable future” until it’s safe to demobilize.
Leaver did not disclose the source of the threat.

In another update after the area was cleared, Leaver said the department’s Major Crime Unit had taken over the investigation.
“Our officers were searching for anything that may have posed a threat to the public. So whatever form that may have taken, we do call on the expertise of specialty units.”
Leaver says there is no ongoing concern for public safety in the area.
