Impaired dump truck driver caught in Chilliwack: BC Highway Patrol

A dump truck driver had to be driven home by his wife after being stopped for impaired driving in Chilliwack last week.

BC Highway Patrol intercepted the driver, who police say was driving dangerously, on Highway 1 eastbound near Vedder Road shortly after 9:30 a.m. on April 9.

“The caller who alerted police did a great job,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.

Upon receiving the call, two BC Highway Patrol vehicles caught the truck near Popkum Road. There, it was moved to an impound lot where it will remain for another 30 days.

“We are obviously very concerned whenever a professional dump truck driver makes the decision to drive while impaired,” McLaughlin emphasized.

The truck driver was identified as a 64-year-old man from Abbotsford. He now faces a 90-day driving suspension. His employer, an Abbotsford company that owns the truck, will be responsible for the towing and impound costs.
