Man hospitalized after Burnaby apartment building fire

Fire crews in Burnaby responded to a fire alarm activation in an apartment building across Boundary Road on Monday afternoon after 2:45 p.m.

Once the firefighters successfully extinguished the fire, they went into the heavily damaged unit searching for residents.

One man was rescued from his apartment in critical condition.

Two ambulances with primary care paramedics also responded to the call and provided emergency medical treatment onsite.

The man was transported to the hospital, says Paramedic Officer Brian Twaites.

One cat also died in the fire.
