1 person killed, 2 hospitalized in rollover crash along Burnaby Mountain Parkway

One person was killed during an early morning crash along Burnaby Mountain Parkway on Thursday.
In a statement, the Burnaby RCMP says the rollover crash happened around 4 a.m. Photos from the scene show a badly damaged vehicle, with debris strewn across the roadway.

BC Emergency Health Services says two people were taken to hospital in stable condition.
“As investigators work to determine the cause of the crash, we ask that the public avoid Burnaby Mountain Parkway between Gagliardi Way and Duthie Avenue,” Cpl. Mike Kalanj explained.
Police said the closure of Burnaby Mountain Parkway will remain in place for the morning, potentially stretching into the afternoon.
TransLink says the 144 and R5 bus routes were temporarily detoured around the closure.
In an update Thursday afternoon, TransLink reported that Burnaby Mountain Parkway had reopened to traffic.



“Police do not have anything further to share at this time; however, more information will be provided as soon as it is available. Burnaby RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team has conduct of the investigation, which is ongoing,” Kalanj said.
Police are asking the public if they have any information or dash-cam footage of the Burnaby Mountain Parkway — in either direction — between 3:30 a.m. and 4:15 a.m.
“If you witnessed the collision and have not spoken to police, or if you have dashcam video in the area, please contact our investigators,” Kalanj said.
