Shots fired at Delta residence overnight; police say incident likely related to extortion

Police in Delta say they are investigating after an overnight shooting that they believe was targeted and related to extortion.

Officers were called to a residence on 78B Avenue near 112th Street at 2:43 a.m., where they found shell casing and confirmed that several shots were fired at the home.

The home was occupied at the time of the shooting, but no injuries have been reported.

CCTV footage shows a suspect getting out of a white SUV and firing several shots into the home before fleeing the scene.

“Preliminary Investigation indicates this to be a targeted incident and related to an extortion investigation,” the Delta Police Department (DPD) said.

“Investigators will be liaising with police partners and the Provincial Extortion Task Force to determine if there are any links to other files.”

The shooting happened at the same time — 2:43 a.m. — as a similar incident just 12 blocks away in Surrey. Surrey Police Service (SPS) Staff Sgt. Lindsay Houghton tells CityNews that the SPS and DPD are liaising to see if the two shootings are connected, given the timing and proximity.
