A serious crash shut down westbound traffic on the Barnet Highway for several hours Tuesday afternoon, well into the evening.
As of Wednesday morning, the road has reopened. We have not received official confirmation of what time it was cleared.
Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj says that the collision occurred near Cariboo Road north of Burnaby Mountain shortly before 2:30 p.m.

“This person has been transported to the hospital with serious injuries.”
BC Emergency Health Services says that it responded with one ambulance, providing “medical treatment to one patient who was transported to hospital in serious condition.”
Officers rerouted westbound traffic on Barnet Highway at Reed Point Way.
The Port Moody Police Department assisted in the road closure.
Police add that eastbound lanes are open but may be affected when the evening traffic increases.
“My suggestion to anyone that uses Barnet Highway westbound is to avoid it altogether,” Kalanj told 1130 News Radio.
“We are not sure what time we will be opening it. It could be an hour from now; it could be into the late evening.”
He also suggests eastbound travellers use alternative routes.
The Burnaby RCMP has launched an investigation into the crash.
