3 kids hit by car in Chilliwack crosswalk

Three children between the ages of 10 and 12 were hit by a car in Chilliwack Tuesday morning.

RCMP Corp. Martin Godard tells CityNews the three kids were crossing Keith Wilson Road at Lindys Drive using a marked crosswalk when they were hit just before 8 a.m.

“The three youths have been transported to local hospital. I can tell you that two of the youths have minor injuries. The third youth has more serious injuries that are non-life-threatening,” Godard explained.

Two of the children have since been released from the hospital “with minor injuries.”

“The third youth was to do a few more medical tests and is expected to be released from the hospital as well today,” Godard said in a follow up interview with CityNews.

It’s unclear what exactly led to the collision, but Godard says “sobriety is not believed to be a concern.” He adds the driver involved is cooperating with the investigation.

The incident shut down the intersection in all directions for several hours. That closure has since been lifted.

“Our investigators are at scene and we will be looking for video surveillance from houses or if anybody has dashcam (footage),” Godard said.
