Highway 17 fully reopens after serious crash injures 3 in Surrey

A serious crash Tuesday evening involving two tractor-trailers on Highway 17 in Surrey left three people hurt and shut the major route all night and well through the next day.
The Surrey RCMP says the two trucks collided around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday.
As of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the highway had fully reopened.
The highway was closed in both directions between Bridgeview Drive and 104 Avenue. The highway reopened to eastbound traffic only just before 12 p.m. Wednesday, and fully westbound more than six hours later.
BC Emergency Health Services told CityNews that four ground ambulances responded to the incident and three patients were taken to hospital.
“The investigation is in the early stages and investigators are working to identify all factors that led to this collision,” Sgt. Brad Williams said.
In an update Wednesday morning, Mounties said a 41-year-old man remains in hospital with serious injuries. The driver and passenger of the second truck, a 44-year-old man and 64-year-old man, have since been released from hospital.
Police say traffic in surrounding areas had been impacted, with delays reported throughout the day.
“The closure will remain in effect for an undetermined amount of time while investigators process the scene,” the RCMP said.
