SURREY (NEWS1130) – Bed bugs have been found at Surrey Memorial Hospital again. They were found in the same psychiatric ward in a lounge chair, last week a sniffer dog found the critters in a couple of couches in common areas.
Cheree Taylor is the Manager of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, who says the infested rooms have been taken care of. “All fabric items in the patient lounge, as an example yesterday, have been removed, and now the areas been fumigated.”
Taylor adds that special precautions are taken to protect patients. “The room during the fumigation is sealed off, so the patients are protected from the fumes, we actually will increase the amount of time that the room is sealed off to ensure that our patients are safe.”
Taylor says because the bugs weren’t found in any hallways or corridors, the bug-sniffing dog only checked out her ward and not the rest of the hospital. The dog will be back for a check up in a month.
The dog, whose name is Frankie, will be back for a check up in a month.
Surrey Memorial also dealt with an outbreak of the Norwalk virus in one of its units recently.
