TORONTO, ON (NEWS1130) – The BC Lions selected offensive lineman Hunter Steward with the sixth-overall pick in today’s Canadian Football League Draft.  The six-foot-7 285-pound Steward has one more year of NCAA availability at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Lions general manager Wally Buono tells News1130 Sports that the team needed a good offensive lineman, and he says Steward will be at training camp next year.

Steward, originally from Kingston, Ontario moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia to enroll at Kellam High School. He was ranked as the No. 118 offensive tackle in the country by ESPN coming out of high school.

With their second-overall pick (12th overall) the Lions took Laval receiver Seydou Junior Haidara.  The Quebec City native was ranked as the 11th best player in the CFL’s Amateur Scouting Bureau final rankings for players eligible for this year’s draft.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats selected University of Calgary defensive lineman Linden Gaydosh with the first-overall selection.
