Hostage situation ends with man falling from apartment building

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – A hostage situation ended with a man falling from the 11th floor of a residential building in Burnaby near Metrotown.
RCMP reported to the scene at approximately 10:40 p.m. on July 4, where they believed the victim of a kidnapping was being held.
When police entered the unit, three men inside left over the balcony and one of them fell to the ground.
He was transported to hospital where he was treated for serious injuries.
The other two men were arrested on lower floors. The man who fell was arrested as well.
The victim of the kidnapping was located safe and unharmed.
The Burnaby RCMP will continue to investigate the alleged kidnapping concurrent to the IIO investigation,
says Eric Stubbs, Acting Commanding Officer of the BC RCMP. This was a complex and time sensitive investigation that required numerous resources and coordination. I am grateful that the victim was located and proud of the work done by our highly skilled and specialized members and employees.
THE RCMP will investigate the alleged kidnapping, while the IIO will look into whether police actions are linked to the main’s injuries.
