VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Elections Canada has sent out about 55,000 special ballots around the world, with most going to the US. But at this point, less than half have been returned.
Matthew McKenna is with Elections Canada and says during the last election, we didn’t see all ballots returned.
“Of all the ballots that we sent to Canadians living abroad, [about] 61 per cent came back in time,” he says.
McKenna adds about 30 per cent never responded, and 10 per cent arrived late.
“[People] didn’t either get [the ballot] on their end, or they didn’t have time. We don’t really speculate on why [someone] might not send their kids back,” he says.
