Charges approved nearly one year after fatal hit and run in Burnaby

Almost a year after a hit and run left a motorcyclist dead in Burnaby, charges have been approved against the alleged driver.

On June 19, 2021, Mounties say a vehicle rear-ended a motorcycle at Canada Way and Imperial Street in Burnaby.

It’s alleged the driver left the scene, while the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Marcel Genaille, 35, now faces a charge of “failing to stop at a scene of an accident in relation to the crash.”

RCMP did not say how Genaille was identified.

“We know this death continues to impact the victim’s family, friends and loved ones, who have been left to grieve their loss knowing the driver involved did not remain at the scene,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj with the Burnaby RCMP.

“Our officers have worked diligently over the past year to bring this matter before the courts.”
