BC Ferries continues cancellations due to ‘mechanical difficulties’

For the third day in a row, the provincial ferry service has cancelled more than a handful of sailings between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island due to mechanical issues with one of its boats.

BC Ferries Queen of Surrey is still experiencing “mechanical difficulties” with its main engine, the ferry service said, and therefore the Queen of Oak Bay, which usually services the Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay route, is being re-routed to run between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale.

The cancelled sailings include:
6:15 a.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
8:25 a.m. departing Departure Bay
10:40 a.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
1:00 p.m. departing Departure Bay
3:45 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay
5:55 p.m. departing Departure Bay

The ferry service says that its other boat, the Queen of Cowichan, will “continue to provide service on this route with some modified departure times.”

“Our Customer Service Centre will contact customers with bookings on these cancelled sailings to let them know if we have space available to fit them on an alternate sailing later in the day, or if their booking must be cancelled,” BC Ferries said in a statement.

“We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of these cancellations.”
