Fire breaks out at Vancouver restaurant, crews say

A restaurant in Vancouver is dealing with the aftermath of a fire on Saturday evening.

“When crews arrived, they found flames on the back side of the address in the alleyway and quickly contained it to the second-floor balcony which contained various types of restaurant supplies, cables, linens, plastic spoons, cutlery,” Al Gregory, the acting assistant chief of operations with the Vancouver Fire Rescue Services, told CityNews.

Gregory says the Sun Sui Wah Seafood Restaurant on Main Street and East 23rd isn’t very damaged as most of the fire was at the back of the building.

“There was some fire damage, sort of to the back side of the building itself, but it was constructed out of cinderblock material. So it was getting quite warm during the fire. There was no real…significant structural damage…to the actual building itself,” he explained.

Gregory says the restaurant’s storage area was what went up in flames, and says no one was hurt in the blaze.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. and he says crews were able to quickly get it under control.

There is no word yet as to what the cause of the fire was.
