The Mission-area wildfire that grew exponentially Friday is now holding at 38 hectares, the BC Wildfire Service says Saturday.
Speaking to CityNews, Coastal Fire Centre Fire Information Officer Nick Donnelly says more than 50 firefighters are tackling the Davis Lake blaze.
Donnelly adds two helicopters are bucketing water on the fire to try to suppress the wildfire’s growth.
The fire, which is approximately 18 kilometres north of Abbotsford, is estimated to be 38 hectares in size.

On social media, the wildfire service says the fire was first spotted on July 5 and is believed to be “human-caused.”
Due to the fire, the BCWS is asking for people to stay away from the area, including around Stave Lake. The Chilliwack Natural Resource District has also closed the Lost Creek Forest Service Road at 0.0 km, the service says.
The Fraser Valley Regional District has also issued an emergency advisory, asking residents and recreators to “avoid the area completely to allow wildfire crews to work.”
Donnelly says as it stands, no critical infrastructure is under threat by the fire.
While he notes it’s hard to predict what the fire activity will look like over the weekend, “[crews] are going to keep on working as it is and hope to keep it contained and not growing.”
