The Vancouver Chinatown Foundation has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the victims of an unprovoked triple stabbing at the Light Up Chinatown! festival.
On Sept. 10, three individuals were attacked by a stranger at the event at Columbia St. and Keefer St. The foundation says victims are now facing not only physical and emotional recovery, but also financial burdens.
“On behalf of the victims and with their permission, the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation has set up this campaign to rally behind them, showing our unity and support during these challenging times,” it said.

The foundation says it hopes to raise $15,000 through the campaign, with the funds going toward medical expenses, counselling and therapy, and assistance for any work missed during recovery.
The community is now coming together as a “unified force” to help the victims, the group says.
“This was a random act of violence, and if there is one thing Chinatown is known for is its resilience,” it said. “We are a community that cares deeply about one another. This attack has only reinforced our sense of community and drive to revitalize Chinatown.”
The accused, 64-year-old Blair Evan Donnelly, was charged with three counts of aggravated assault in connection with the crime — he made his first court appearance on Sept. 15. The attack, which Premier David Eby said made him feel “white-hot angry,” took place while Donnelly was on a day pass from a forensic psychiatric hospital, prompting the launch of an investigation into the circumstances around the stabbing.
