Woman hurt in Richmond crash was inside restaurant when Tesla crashed into business: RCMP

A 46-year-old woman was critically injured after a crash sent a Tesla through the front window of a Richmond restaurant on Friday.

In an update Monday, the Richmond RCMP says the woman’s condition has “greatly improved,” and she is no longer in critical condition.

“She was inside of the business prior to the collision … The driver of the Tesla, a 20-year-old from Richmond, was uninjured,” Corp. Dennis Hwang said.

Images from Friday showed the Tesla fully inside Chung Chun Rice Hot Dog at the corner of No. 3 Road and Westminster Highway.

Richmond RCMP Staff Sgt. Gurbir Mondair said at the time the single-vehicle collision happened just after 11 a.m.

“Neither alcohol or drugs are considered factors in this collision,” Hwang added.
