BC Ferries says Coastal Celebration back in service after Monday mechanical issues

BC Ferries says the Coastal Celebration is back in service after mechanical issues forced the company to cancel several sailings Monday.

The corporation says the previously cancelled 5:45 p.m. sailing from Tsawwassen to Duke Point is now a go, after the problems were resolved.

Several sailings between Metro Vancouver and Nanaimo were scrapped Monday morning and early afternoon due to a problem with the vessel’s propulsion system.

The 5:15 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and 3:15 p.m. from Duke Point, and the 7:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. sailings from Tsawwassen were among those to be cancelled.

In an effort to help alleviate some of the pressure, BC Ferries had brought in the Queen of New Westminster to provide supplementary service, with reduced catering.

The 8:15 p.m. from Duke Point and the 10:45 p.m. from Tsawwassen were also at risk of cancellation Monday. However, those are now expected to go ahead as planned.

The mechanical issue came after the Coastal Celebration was taken out of service last summer after an oil leak was found.
