East Vancouver cyclist seriously injured after being hit by vehicle

A 53-year-old woman was taken to hospital in serious condition after being struck while cycling through an east Vancouver intersection. As Kier Junos reports, the intersection is one of the most dangerous areas for cyclists in the city.

The Vancouver Police Department says a 53-year-old cyclist was seriously injured in a crash with a vehicle early Wednesday morning.

The VPD says the cyclist was taken to hospital after being hit at the East 10th Avenue Clark Drive intersection around 6 a.m.

Police say the woman was hit by the driver of a red Honda Fit as she was riding west along 10th Avenue.

“The driver of the vehicle remained on scene to speak with police,” Const. Tania Visintin told CityNews.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage of the area around that time is asked to call the VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.

The collision closed a section of Clark Drive between Broadway and East 12th Avenue for a few hours. Clark Drive reopened to traffic just after 10 a.m.

Wednesday’s crash is near the same site where another cyclist was hit and killed in April of this year.
