“Additional officers are in the area investigating. More information expected to be shared later today.”
In a statement to CityNews, the BC Emergency Health Services says it got a call around 10:30 a.m. regarding the police incident.
“One ambulance with primary care paramedics and one ambulance with advanced care paramedics responded to the scene,” Public Information Officer Rachelle Brown shared.
“Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to one patient who was transported to the hospital in critical condition,” Brown added.
In an update Thursday afternoon, police confirmed the victim is a 25-year-old man.
“He was taken to hospital by the paramedics,” VPD Const. Tania Visintin said.
“The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.”
Police say occurrences like this threaten public safety, especially in busy intersections.
“Anybody could be caught in the crossfire,” Visintin said.
“Thankfully no one was, but it does pose a very dangerous situation when incidents like this occur.”
The VPD is asking anyone with CCTV Footage or information to call their major crime section.
