Police investigating overpass strike on Highway 1 in Langley

The BC Highway Patrol says it is investigating reports of a Wednesday morning overpass strike in Langley.

Cpl. Michael McLaughlin says just before 8 a.m., a caller reported to police that a box truck had hit the CP Rail overpass along Highway 1 westbound, just after 232 Street.

“The damage to the overpass appears to be minor. It is hard to distinguish today’s damage from multiple past overpass strikes at this same location,” said McLaughlin, adding the truck was actually a flatbed with a large load.

“Police would like to remind drivers that they have a legal obligation to stop for any collision that might have caused damage.”

McLaughlin says the driver of the truck didn’t remain at the scene of the alleged crash, but has since been found and has been speaking with police.

The province’s Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement (CVSE) is following up with the driver, the BCHP says, to “determine appropriate enforcement.”

McLaughlin adds that traffic in the area does not appear to be affected and remains as busy as the normal rush hour.
