Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne rocks Vancouver’s Wise Hall Friday

A week after tribute band Sack Blabbath took over Vancouver’s Hollywood Theatre, another local band paid its respects to the late Ozzy Osbourne — this time at the Wise Hall.
Friday evening, Vancouver rockers Brass Camel and their guests presented Van Sabbath, an evening of music to honour the Prince of Darkness and his former band, Black Sabbath.
Frontman Daniel Sveinson said it was expected to be a “hell of a show.”
“We have about two and a half hours’ worth of just killer material,” he said.
“I think it’s really made us all go, wow, there’s a lot of great stuff in here that has seeped back up through the cracks of our musical taste and made us just absolutely excited about tonight.”
Sveinson says Black Sabbath influenced countless bands, including his own.
“We all love the band. We all grew up with them,” he said.
“They’re such a formative band that, in the world of heavy music, it’s like The Beatles in the world of every other type of popular music. You cannot find somebody that hasn’t been influenced in some way by the riffs or the imagery.”
Despite Sabbath’s doom-and-gloom image, their music has a very positive message, Sveinson says.
“All the lyrics are about treating each other well and loving your neighbour, so if I can pull one thing from the unexpected pleasantry of the lyrics, it is to be kind to each other, Vancouver, treat each other well, and you’ll have a better time for it.”
