Traffic is backing up heavily along Oak Street between Richmond and Vancouver. You can take the Knight Street Bridge or the Arthur Laing Bridge as an alternate route.

But for residents in the area, it’s not just the upgrade works that are creating headaches.

Gennifer Holland says it’s a nightmare of jammed streets as people try to find non-existent shortcuts.

“I hope that [drivers] recognize that people live in that neighborhood, people have kids that are going to bed, and people maybe have had a hard day and just want to watch a movie, and having the incessant honking, it’s just ridiculous,” she told 1130 NewsRadio.

Holland explains that while everyone is “looking for a shortcut, there is none,” and people get frustrated.

“You can’t order food, because it’s going to sit in the line for, like, 30 minutes. No one’s going to want to deliver to you,” she added. “And even taking the bus from Marine Drive Station, it just sits on Marine Drive forever, so you just get off an walk.”

Construction on the sewer is slated to finish Tuesday night.
