Vancouver weekend road closures for Sun Run and Vaisakhi

Vancouver will be a hub of activity this weekend, as major spring-time events return to the city.

Beginning Saturday morning, local Sikhs will be celebrating Vaisakhi in South Vancouver.

The Vaisakhi parade begins at 10:45 a.m. from the Ross Street Temple, just off Marine Drive. The festivities will be centred mostly around the Main Street and 49th Avenue area.

Vaisakhi will also be celebrated in Surrey the following weekend, on Saturday, April 22.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Vancouver Sun Run will take over much of the downtown core, West End, Fairview, and Kitsilano.

The 36th iteration of the event begins at 8 a.m., with the main race kicking off at 9 a.m.

Thousands of people are expected to descend to watch and participate in Canada’s largest 10-kilometre race.

Major road closures are to be expected for both days, with the Sun Run closing 20 roads, alone, beginning at 5 a.m.
