Multiple people sent to hospital after head-on crash on Highway 99 in Surrey

A head-on, two-vehicle crash along Highway 99 in Surrey sent multiple people to the hospital Sunday.

Police were called out to the crash around 4 a.m. after a Ford sedan was travelling the wrong way down the highway and struck a Mercedes.

The collision shut down the south-east lanes of Highway 99 at the Highway 91 junction for several hours, with the route reopening just before 4 p.m.

The 68-year-old driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital with possibly life-threatening injuries. The other driver and their passenger were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police say alcohol and a pre-existing medical condition are believed to have contributed to the crash.

Mounties are asking anyone with any information about the incident, including dash cam footage, to call them at 604-599-0502 and quote file 2024-59328.
