Const. Tania Visintin says the man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Around 5:30 p.m. Friday, the VPD said the victim died from his injuries, and police are investigating the incident as a homicide.

Visintin did not confirm whether the incident was a stabbing, nor if a weapon was used.

“Investigators believe the suspect and victim knew each other. There is no public safety risk at this time,” Visintin said in a statement.

Police say no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Yellow police tape was up blocking off an alleyway south of East Hastings Street between Main Street and Gore Avenue Friday morning.

The VPD’s Forensic Identification Unit was also on scene investigating.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to call the VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2500.
