Van Herk explains the car was travelling westbound when it hit the 44-year-old pedestrian.

“At this point in the investigation, we are still trying to determine what the pedestrian was doing in the middle of the bypass,” he explained.

“The pedestrian has been taken to a local hospital with critical life-threatening injuries, and the driver and vehicle remained at the scene to speak with police.”

Van Herk says the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and Langley RCMP remain at the scene investigating. Speed and alcohol not likely to be factors in the crash, he added.

The Bypass is closed between Glover Road and 56th Avenue as the crash reconstruction and analysis team does its work.

Anyone who saw the incident or has dashcam video from between 4:00 a.m. and 4:15 a.m. from the area is asked to contact the Langley RCMP at 604 532-3200.
