Crews are on scene along Highway 1 in Abbotsford Thursday morning after a semi truck flipped and caught fire around 3 a.m.
Sgt. Paul Walker tells 1130 NewsRadio that another passenger vehicle was involved in the crash near 264 Street, but no injuries have been reported.

“We’re currently flushing eastbound traffic by in one lane of the scene, though it will be shortly closed again for a full road closure while crews get in to move some debris that’s on the highway here, as well as fire crew to continue their work,” Walker explained.
Walker says their goal is to have at least one lane open for the remainder of the morning and afternoon.
“But we need to ensure that the scene is fully safe before we do that,” he said.

As of 7:30 a.m., one lane reopened to eastbound traffic.
Walker says that while police are still investigating what exactly happened, police believe an SUV was travelling in the fast lane and lost control, crashing into the semi truck.
“That forced the semi truck to lose control, roll over into the ditch, and immediately burst into flames. Currently, the investigation is being led by our patrol officers. Speed as well as road and weather conditions are being looked at as factors for the SUV,” Walker explained.
“Fortunately, nobody was injured in this collision, both in the SUV that also rolled on its side and the semi driver himself. So the good news is no injuries. The bad news is we have some seriously impacted folks this morning during their morning commute.”
