According to fire crews, the firefighters got the call around 9 p.m. after reports of the fire around 66A Avenue and 180 Street.

Mark Forney with the SFS says that once the firefighters arrived, they saw a two-story building up in flames. According to Forney, the fire had already gone through the roof.

Reports suggest flames were first spotted coming out of an electric BMW SUV parked in front of the house.

Forney explained that 25 firefighters were battling the blaze.

SFS Assistant Chief of Operations Greg McRobbie says all five residents escaped the house from upstairs, and another, in the basement, was accounted for before crews entered.

McRobbie says fire investigation crews are on scene Tuesday, working to determine the cause and point of origin.

“There’s nothing right now that’s leading towards suspicion, just investigating,” he explained.

McRobbie says damage to the neighbouring houses was thankfully contained to the exterior and those residents were allowed to return home.

“From a fire department standpoint, that was a really big save for us to keep that from getting into the neighbouring house. And the other really big point that came away from last night, with no injuries, is that we had working smoke detectors in this house. So when crews arrived on scene, the smoke detectors were sounding.”
